Theodor Steidel, owner of the hotel Villa Vinum Cochem, recognized the historical villa as a hidden jewel back in 2010. Fascinated by the outstanding architecture from the turn of the last century and its location right at the river Moselle, Theo decided that this landmarked villa become “his project”. Theo has experience, which spans almost three decades in both Germany and Scandinavia, restoring historical buildings as well as constructing modern houses. With the support of the local people Theo knew he could revitalise the villa into something that now adds to the heartbeat of a lovely neighbourhood.
This mixture of keeping the values of original architecture and adding modern elements with taste and ability convinced Steidel’s partner Monika van der Beek to get involved and be part of what she calls today a “masterpiece”. Where Steidel is more the man of “concrete and construction” van der Beek is the counterpart of “communication and design”.
Together they decided that not only in restoring the villa would they fulfill a dream, but that they would keep their way of hospitality living on in the villa. Having both spent many years abroad in different countries; they are finally delighted to be able to invite people from all over the world into their house.
“We want to share the atmosphere of house and region and we enjoy the pleasure that our guests will have in this wonderful area”, van der Beek says.
Theo adds: “I’m sure that our experience entertaining friends will show during your stay in our house, we are looking forward to taking care of you!”
